We are in debt to people who are foolish enough to trust our ability to repay that debt. I think the credit ratings of a lot of countries should be lower. That includes America, sadly.
The debt is all owned by the BIS (Bank of International Settlement), the Federal Reserve and other central banks. As taxpayers we are obliged (saddled) to repay our governments' debts. More is owed by government than we are able to pay. Every time you read of "inflation" think extra profit for the central banks.
Nicely done, Surak. You venture where no man dares. Yes, abolish higher education as it exists today. Reform, likely not possible. Conservatives should fund their own schools of higher ed. Present degree mills should not get government handouts of taxpayer money. They have been endowed with enormous endowment funds (tax free). They also own billions of dollars of non- tax paying property. Part of the reason lefties oppose charter schools (beside often reasonable subject matter) is most charters are not staffed by (Marxist) unions. If leftists didn't oppose education they would not try to stop vouchers. Taking over education is a prime objective of the socialists, commies, etc. Muslim countries have learned that contributions pay dividends to their cause.
The future of higher education at colleges and universities may be in danger. AI may take over.
